Zeekoegat Project Vision for 2016

NPO 193-185

Zeekoegat Trust is now going into its 9th Year of existence and we find ourselves yet again taking stock of what our Project has achieved, and more importantly, how can we improve, how can we achieve more for the children of the Welgeluk and Volmoed Farming Communities.

We support a local Rural Farm School and Playschool – Zeekoegat Primary and De Kleine Zeekoe. We started this project because we think that Education is one of the most important ways in which to improve the future of underprivileged children. We at Safari Ostrich Farm firmly believe in giving back to the Community within which our business operates.
Thank-you to all our Benefactors that supported our Project in the last year, every single cent is appreciated and used as best we can. We are approaching the end of our Financial Year in February and will then give you a Report back as to how much we were able to raise and how we spent your precious donations.

Zeekoegat Primary School Trust – September 2015

Zeekoegat is a charity organisation set-up to help change the lives of dis-advantaged children from the farming district of Welgeluk and Volmoed – Oudtshoorn – Western Cape – South Africa.

The support financially that Zeekoegat Primary receives from Government to run a Primary & Play School, just simply is not enough and we face many challenges due to poverty within these farming communities.  We as the Trust are there to bridge the financial gab between the funding from the Government and what is actually required to run a good school. Thank-you, YOU made a difference!

With another financial year done and dusted for Zeekoegat Primary School Project, I want to take a moment and say Thank you, YOU made a difference!

In my previous newsletter I explained what we were able to raise financially for the year 01 March 2014 till 28 February 2015 and I went on to breakdown for you how we allocated those funds.  The most important role that we as the Trust play is to improve the children’s Education, so 63% of our funds are spent on additional educators.  Our Feeding Scheme is also crucial as a Hungry & Mal-nourished child can’t learn, 13% is spent on ensuring balanced healthy meals.  The rest can be broken down into the following:

Newsletter November 2014

Another year is almost at an end…

2014 has been a year full of changes and challenges, we decided after 10 years running this project that we needed to relook our goals and face up to a few big challenges.  The project started as a personal project that was inspired by a Tour Guide Stephen Menzies.  Not too long into the project, the owners of Safari Ostrich Farm for whom I work, found out what I was spending my extra time on and were so impressed, that they decided to not only back me 100% and that Safari Ostrich Farm as a Private Company would adopt this project and give it the necessary support and exposure that it would need if we wanted to raise significant funds.  Safari Ostrich Farm’s owners feel strongly about Education and its importance in all our future’s and most importantly in these children’s futures.  Please read our Newsletter November 2014. Eyethrophy – 2014 – Zeekoegat Primary School Project : We at Safari are in the fortunate position of being involved with Zeekoegat Primary School Project and we are privileged to experience the good in people. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Jaco Kriek from Oudtshoorn Optometrists and the Union of Jewish Women, from Oudtshoorn. For making it possible for our 81 children at Zeekoegat Primary, to have their eyes tested at no charge by Jaco Kriek. This took up countless hours of Jaco’s time, which he so selflessly gave us. As a result he discovered 24 children that desperately needed reading glasses. Jaco Kriek provided these Reading Glasses at cost and the Union of Jewish Women paid for them. Now our children’s eyes are open and they can see all the possibilities lying ahead of them, life is no longer a blur. What a basic need to be able to see clearly but it was so far out of their reach before the Union of Jewish Women and Oudtshoorn Optometrists stepped in and reached out to our children at Zeekoegat Primary School.
